The first CAN for Balkans meeting took place in Leskovac from 25 to 28 of June 2021, simultaneously with the 23rd edition of the Balkans Festival of Young Comics Creators (Balkanska smotra mladih strip autora) – an annual event that brings together comic book authors from Balkan countries through different activities – exhibitions, panels, masterclasses, etc. The festival was successfully held with a record of 2871 exhibitors from 80 countries and six continents.
At the official opening of the 23rd Balkans Festival of Young Comics Creators in Culture Center of Leskovac the audience was greeted by Goran Cvetanovic, Mayor of the City of Leskovac, Marko Stojanovic from Leskovac school of comics, Isabelle Debekker, director of Belgian Comic Strip Center and Nicolae Pepene, director of Brașov County History Museum.
